Dr Jane F McCarthy

In 1984 Dr McCarthy graduated with honours from the University of Sydney with a Bachelor Dental Surgery.  For five years following graduation she worked in general practice in Wodonga Victoria.  n 1989 Dr McCarthy spent most of the year travelling in Europe and working in the UK. On her return to Australia she took up a lectureship in restorative dentistry at the University of Western Australia for two years in 1990-1991.

Dr McCarthy then completed a Masters in Periodontics at Melbourne University completing her thesis “DNA probe for Porphyromonas gingivalis in periodontitis patients” under supervisor Prof Eric Reynolds.

During 1994-1995 she was at Indiana University as a Postdoctoral fellow and was involved in teaching, implant training and clinical and bone metabolism research.
Since returning to Australia Dr McCarthy has been in private practice and established Applecross Periodontics in the riverside suburb of Applecross in 1997. Dr McCarthy has presented numerous times for UWA University, the Diabetes Educators Association, various societies and the ADA. Her special interests include periodontal disease and diabetes, gingival recession and periodontal plastic surgery techniques, dental implants and pre-orthodontic surgery.
