Dr Burstone has published over 16 books or book chapters and 150 papers in the field of orthodontics. He has developed the segmented arch technique and has carried out extensive clinical and basic research in the biomechanics of tooth movement and orthodontic appliances.

He was one of the early developers of interactive active computer programs for diagnosis and Treatment planning and co-developer of the new wire alloys TMA and Chinese NiTi. He has pioneered the application of long fiber reinforced composites in appliance design and use. Dr Burstone has published widely in diverse areas as growth, orthognathic surgery, facial esthetics, and soft tissue analysis, material science, biophysics and treatment planning.

Dr Burstone has lectured throughout the world presenting courses and seminars on clinical Orthodontics in North America, South America, Europe, Asia, the Middle East, Africa and Australia.

He is former president of the American Board of Orthodontics, former president of the Great Lakes Society of Orthodontics, and has held numerous offices in organized dentistry, and has been frequently honored.
